Cast Five Post Op....

The day of Oscars small surgical procedure arrived and was all over so quickly. Oscar had his cast removed in a nice warm bath and as usual he started to cry when the cutting of the cast started, i don't blame him as his leg is held very tightly so that he doesn't move as knifes and sharp scissors are in use. Today there was a little girl having here cast removed and she really was upset by the whole experience and this set Oscar off worse than usual, poor little things. After having the cast removed and settling Oscar down he was very quickly back to his happy smiley self, few! Oscar was given a local anaesthetic in the form of cream to the heal of the foot a plaster was placed on top and we were sent away for 45 minutes to allow the the anaesthetic to kick in before the procedure. When we returned Denise the lady at the Ponseti Clinic that we most regularly saw and a surgeon were waiting for us ready for the procedure, the procedure was done in a room around the corner from the clinic at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We first signed some paper work for the procedure about what can happen sometimes, muscle damage, continued bleeding, infection and then they got started. My husband and I stayed with Oscar as we felt it would be less distressing for him during the the procedure Oscar, we helped hold him so he did not move, he was very good and did not cry i assume as it was so numb he could not feel a thing. I was expecting fits of crying but was very relived after they cut the Achilles tendon he was bandaged up and a cast was immediately applied. We were told to expect crying and possible discomfort later and that calpol would be a good option to give him to help him sleep once the anaesthetic had worn off, and to watch him for continued bleeding this would be seen through the cast and fever or unusual behaviour, but we were surprised and waiting for this to happen but nothing he was his normal churpy self no fever, no continued bleeding and no crying, very strange but happy all the same.
