First Cast....

Home, London
9th June 2011

Our first visit to Chelsea and Westminister was today we didnt really antisipate what would happen but we were very happy with what did. Oscar was started on the ponseti method with his first cast and to my surprise he was really good. We were introduced to the team who are really nice, a lady called Denise was looking after us and explained about there department and the Ponseti method, what would be happening today and over the course of the treatment. Oscars feet were given a score out of 6, 6 being the worst, he was given a 0 for his left foot which I was really happy with and a 5.5 for his right foot which I kind of expected as I feel the foot and look at it I could tell it needed alot of attension. We then went staright into casting Oscars right foot right up to his thigh in order to start the Ponseti method, as we had been reffered so late by my Doctor we were put on a slighly more excelarated program were Oscar would have two casts a week to start with to get the process rolling. Oscar was very good I was encourage to breast feed whilst they were applying the cast which I think was a brilliant idea as it relaxed him and distracted him from what was going on. I did feel a little emotional as the process was going on but you have to be strong for your little one and it is for the greater good. The casting took no longer than 15mins we dressed Oscar again and were given another appointment later that week and we were off home. As the casts would be coming off on a regular bases there is no need to bath him at home as they get a bath at hospital when they return for a new cast.
