Fever....
Doctors surgery. Ealing
28th December 2011
The day after boxing day Oscar woke feeling a bit hot, as we were in a rush to get back to London for my husband to return to work we popped him in the car and thought nothing of it as he was his usual chirrpy self. As the day progressed he got hotter and hotter and more and more lethargic so i took his temperature under his armpit with a digital thermometer and was surpassed to see his temp was above 39 so i gave him some Calpol and made sure he was getting as much liquid as he would take and tried to keep him cool. He didn't seem to have any other symptoms so I was pretty puzzled, but the Calpol did the job and reduced the fever. That night Oscar slept really well, but i kept and eye on him and regular took his temperature. The next day the temperature was still there and even with Calpol would not dip below 39 so we booked a doctors appointment. After a while in the surgery the doctor concluded that Oscar had tonsillitis, poor little thing and know one we knew had been ill or suffered from tonsillitis we did wonder how on earth he picked it up, but he's a baby and germs are easily picked up. The doctor advised us to alternate between liquid paracetamol and liquid ibuprofen for another 48 hours and if the fever continues and there are no signs of his illness subsiding then to start a course of antibiotics for 7 days which is in our fridge. I really hope he starts to feel better today as i know its not the best thing to give babies or young children antibiotics unless its totally necessary. Get well soon Oscar x
