We have been to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London for Oscars 6 monthly appointment this week, which went really well. They where very happy with his feet and gave us the great news that we are on track for Oscar to stop wearing boots and bar when he turns 5 in April. They have made a note of Oscars birthday and shall coordinate his boots off around his birthday how very exciting i think we will have to have a boots off party. I don't think Oscar can grasp the idea yet that he will not have to wear his boots and bar at night, he has been so good throughout that I think he may well miss his boots! After inspecting oscars feet and getting him to run up and down the corridor they said his unaffected foot is actually not as strong as his effected foot, most likely due to wearing his boots and bar on his good foot and therefore not being as active as it could be. And to encourage Oscar to use the good foot more, this could be using his good foot to balance with on his scooter or starting off on his other foot up the stairs to build up strength. The ponseti Dr mentioned unless Oscars feet had shown signs of regression before he was 5 there would be little point of wearing a splint at night as a child of this age is so active that they will get all the strength and support they need to keep the foot from regressing. I can't help but worry that one day things may change, but at this moment in time we are so happy for him, bring on April 2016!
