Update...
Home, Winchester.
4th November 2016
After our meeting at Chelsea and Westminster hospital, the days following lots of questions came flooding in.
I contacted Densise with plenty of questions and are pre op, op, post op appointments have now arrived.
Oscar will be cast with a lower leg cast for just over a week before the op to prep his foot, ensuring his foot is at the correct angle. Oscar is still so young at only 5 and has no idea what is going to happen, he just doesn't understand and what boy of 5 would. He is most excited about having a brightly coloured cast and showing his friends at school.
Op day we will need to be in at 7.30am to wait before being given our op time. Fingers crossed we don't have to wait all day as Oscar will not be allowed to eat or drink from the night before op day. Post op they will put his leg in a full leg cast.
Then we are likely to need to stay in over night, from blog advise people have recommended staying in as long as possible to allow for the op medication to where off and get him onto pain killers and comfortable.
Post op Oscar will be on strict no weight bearing for 6 weeks, during this time he will have his cast changed and in the last 2 weeks he will potentially be down to a below the knee cast. During this time Oscar will be using a wheel chair and later onto a walking frame.
We have been told that the rehabilitation of Oscars foot / walking will take 6 months to get him back to being active. Within a year completely back to normal.
If you where to look at Oscars foot now, other than his one skinny leg you wouldn't know that he had an issue with his foot / muscle, I just hope that his foot looks better not worse post op. If we didn't do the op then his foot would continue to curl and then cause him issues walking, running and start to cause him pain.
Its a hard place to be right now, all we want is for Oscar to be like all the other little boys, active and happy.
