Todays the day..

Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.
13th December 2016

After a very early rise of 4am and hitting the road by 4.45am we made it to Chelsea and Westminster hospital in good time ready for our pre op appointment.

We turned up before our appointment time along with the other 20 or so parents arriving for their children's ops that day.

We where meet by Alison Hulme for our pre op meeting to determine weather Oscar was well enough for the op. Luckily Oscar was fine and not ill. We discussed the operation procedure and signed the content form before the surgeon placed an arrow on Oscars right leg to mark the operating leg.

Oscar has been so brave, he seems a little nervous but no tears we have been very positive and distracting him from his thoughts.

Next we went on to see a nurse who placed numbing cream on both of Oscars hands ready for the anaesthetic to inject the anaesthetic. We where the first operation of the day.

after waiting for 15 minutes a nurse came along and hurried us to the changing rooms as the surgeon was ready for us. We quickly got Oscar changed into his gown and gave daddy a big kiss before be escorted to theatre. Only one parent can be in the room while the child is anaesthetist.

Once oscar was on the hospital bed they removed the numbing cream and asked the nurse how long it had been on. She replayed one hour, which I replied I think about half an hour. After checking the paper work it had only been 20 minutes. The numbing cream needed to be on for an hour to be effective. As they where ready to start the op they decided to give Oscar gas to put him to sleep before giving him the injection.

This was the strangest feeling / experience watching your child unnaturally going to sleep. They placed a mask up to his face and asked him to effectively try to blow up a ballon which was on the the end of a pipe. This process took about 5 to 10 minutes before oscars eyes started to roll and he finally feel asleep. The anaesthetist asked me to give him a big kiss and with that I was asked to leave the room..

I felt this over whelming sense of sadness and the tears started to flood after leaving theatre.
