First check up post op...

Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.
9th January 2017

Today Oscar had his full leg cast removed, this made Oscar giggle from the vibrations of the cutting machine to start with.

Although by the end he was a bit on edge, I think the vibrations became a bit to intense for him especially around his foot.

After the cast was removed we got to see the button under his foot holding the muscle in place, and it was actually a button, a white plastic button, like a shirt button. Oscar was very impressed.

All looked fine under the cast, the bandages / plasters where not removed today, but the leg and foot looked good and not too smelly!! Denise and Dr Evans discussed best next steps.

During Oscars op they had discover that his muscle was longer than expected and there would be no need to wear a splint once casts are removed at this stage.

As a compromise for no splint post cast they decided that they would re cast with a below the knee walking cast which would remain on for 3 weeks. Then the cast will be removed along with the button in 3 weeks time.

Oscar was very please with the idea of getting mobile again and to choose a new cast colour, day glow yellow with blue glitter.

The last few days he has really got his spirit back with lots of energy and really wanting to get about and go outside.

After the cast was applied oscar had to wait till the next day to be able to put weight on, we where given a black Velcro cast shoe and Oscar went back into his wheel chair.
