Signs of infection...

Home, Winchester.
1st February 2017

Oscar had his cast off on Monday and has been managing to weight bear, we are having to remind him that he can put his foot down. He would rather hop everywhere, but the hospital did say that we must remind him if he does try to hop. He has used his frame a couple of times but happy to start putting weight on snd walking with a limp from the mild pain / awkwardness of now putting his foot down.

Day 2 post cast the top of his foot is looking a bit red, not to sore although Oscar has said it does feel a bit sore. I think this is probably down to not wearing shoes for such a long time and his foot still a little bit swollen.

Day 3 post cast the long scar on the top of Oscars foot has developed a tiny bubble, this looks like it has a bit of an infection underneath. Oscar is fine in himself and the foot doesn't feel hot to touch.

Just to keep our minds at peace we contacted an out of hours doctor who wanted to take a look, we managed to get an appointment at Winchester hospital at 9pm that night. They said it looks ok at the moment and to keep an eye on it and if it gets worth them to come back, but to be on the safe side being post op they wanted to prescribe him some Fucidin cream (Kills germs) to apply.

We had to drive up to Basingstoke to get the prescription as the Winchester late night pharmacy was out of stock. We have now starting applying 3 times a day as directed. Fingers crossed this clears up the bubble.
